01Fully occlusive care
Fully occlusive post-procedure care, such as petrolatum based products, are not ideal because they do not allow heat to permeate readily from the wound or damaged skin surface. They may promote wound maceration, softening and breaking down of the skin, and are related to erythema and inflammation.1
02Ointments and moisturisers
Over-the-counter ointments and moisturisers are not ideal, as they do not create a moist wound healing environment. It is a well-recognized fact that compromised skin heals 40% faster when kept moist.1
03Physical dressings
Physical dressings, such as commercially available masks, are not ideal since they are cumbersome to apply to a patient’s face to ensure full contact with the treated area, especially in areas like the eyelids and vermilion borders. For this reason, the preferred option is topical creams or gels.1
